Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy:

Massage is recognised as one of the oldest forms of treatment in healthcare. Massage Therapy is defined as "... the manual manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, to achieve a therapeutic response. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves the circulation of the blood and lymph, and relieves pain and stress." (MTANS). Massage Therapists in Nova Scotia have a minimum of 2200 hours of training focused on Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Orthopedic Assessment, Massage Therapy Techniques, Treatment Planning, Remedial Exercise, and Ethics. Massage Therapy can be used as a preventative healthcare measure, by increasing circulation to and from the soft-tissues of your body, bringing oxygen and nutrients and helping in the removal of metabolic wastes through the venous and lymphatic system (part of your immune system).

Touch has also been proven to decrease the levels of circulating stress hormones in your blood, promoting a more relaxed state both physically and emotionally. Massage Therapists are also trained to assess and treat a wide range of neuro-musculo-skeletal conditions through the use of specific manual techniques and appropriate prescription of home care exercises.
